UPS is short for Uninterruptable Power Supply. A UPS
maintains a constant rate of power and most provide protection from power surges
(EX. Lightning strikes) and blackouts as well.
What is JetFlash?
JetFlash is a mobile storage device with a
self-contained USB interface. Light weight and compact, JetFlash is ideal for
mobile users. Despite its miniature size and light weight, once JetFlash is
plugged into a USB port of a PC, it would act like any other mass storage
device. With its solid state construction, JetFlash is able to withstand
vibration.
What is Serial ATA?
Serial ATA (SATA) is the next setp replacement for
today's parallel ATA (PATA) physical storage interface used in desktop and
mobile computer systems today. Serial ATA is designed to offer higher data
transfer rates, a more reliable connection, simpler RAID integration, faster HDD
installation, hot-plug compatible and allows for smaller system designs.
The goals of serial ATA are:
Better performance
Increased reliability
Easier installation
Software compatibility with the old parallel ATA
10 year life expectancy on serial ATA drives
What is a DVD-RAM?
It is actually a rewritable drive type that uses a
phase-change technology like the CD-RW drives. However, DVD-RAM discs cannot be
read by standard DVD-ROM drives because of the differences in both reflectivity
of the medium and the data format.
What is bad sector mean?
There are two types of bad sectors - physical
(hard defect) and logical (soft defect). A hard defect is visible on the surface
of the hard disk, like a scratch or a pit. This can be caused by particles on
the surface or by excessive vibration or shock. If this is the defect, nothing
can be done and you just have to live with it. If the problem is not serious,
the hard disk is still usable, provided that the "bad sectors" are marked so
that new data will not be recorded on these sectors. A logical defect is due to
abnormal data recorded onto the hard disk. More often this is caused by a sudden
power failure, unstable power supply, virus attack, etc. Since there is no
physical damage on disc surface, new data can be written onto it without any
problem.
What are the uses of the printer memory?
Like computers Inkjet and Laser
printers too also have memory allowing printer jobs to be stored while others
may be completing. Having a large amount of memory or available buffer space
available allows for computers to send that information and allowing the
computer to continue working without being bogged down by having a print job
running in the background.
What precautions should be taken before and while using the
JetFlash?
Make sure you plug in the unit to rear USB port of your machine
via provided cable. For Mac user, DO NOT plug Jetflash into USB port in
keyboard. Some front USB ports and USB hubs do not deliver enough power to
Jetflash. Wait for a few seconds upon inserting and removing of the JetFlash, to
give time to the operating system to recognize the JetFlash. Avoid removing
immediately after inserting the JetFlash or performing repetitive
insertions/removals.
My CD-ROM drive only works in Windows but not in DOS mode. How do I fix
this?
The problem occurs when the CD-ROM driver (mscdex.exe) is disable or
missing from autoexec.bat file. It might be due to the file is corrupted. To
overcome the problem, try to remove REM in front of C:>mscdex.exe (in the
same row) in the autoexec.bat file. Else get the CD-ROM driver diskette from the
CD-ROM manufacturer and install it into your PC.
When I power up my PC, the monitor shows "No signal input". What does it
mean?
"No signal input" message indicates that the connection between your
PC and monitor is loose. Try checking the connection at the back of your PC;
plug and unplug the monitor cable from the PC or jiggle the cable around. If the
problem can't be solved, call a technician.
There are many kinds of CD-Rs around - blue, gold and green color. Which one
is the best, and which can last longer?
Unlike normal audio CDs and CD-ROMs,
CD-Rs have a layer of dye which a CD-R drive will literally burn pits into it.
This organic dye coupled with the type of material used for the reflective layer
determines the color of the CD-R. Three main types of organic dye is used,
namely cyanine, phthalocynine and metal-azo. Cyanine-based media is blue if used
with a silver layer or emerald green if used with a gold layer.
Phthalocynine-based media is pale green on silver and yellow-green on gold.
Metal-azo media is rich blue on silver and green if on gold. Manufactures make
many claims on how long their CD-R media dyes will last, anything from 75 years
to 100 years. Although manufacturer claims are speculative at best, it is safe
to say that the CD-R media will last at least your lifetime.
What is the IDE (Integrated Device Electronics) / EIDE (Enhanced Integrated
Device Electronics) hard drive interfaces?
This is generally the most common
interface used with hard drives and is generally the easiest installation. When
installing these types of hard drives ensure that the jumpers are correctly
configured. If you have two devices connected to one IDE / EIDE controller one
must be set to master and the other must be set to slave. All motherboards today
will have at least two IDE or EIDE controllers. Additional installation help can
be found in the section hard disk drive installation.
I can't here sound when I played Audio CD, but I can here sound when I
played games or other sound files (such as midi and wave files). How can I over
come the problem?
Please check the wire connection that connected to your
CD-ROM and Sound Card. It might be not connected to either end, or the wire is
missing.
